August Derleth Day Trip

I took another day trip with the family this weekend to Sauk City, home of author August Derleth.  I've been meaning to go there for quite some time and it's really only about 25 miles from me so we finally went.

We found the August W. Derleth Park where they had a nice memorial plaque commemorating Sauk City's most famous son.

This is outside a diner called Leystra's Venture Restaurant.  They had a whole room dedicated to August Derleth with pictures and newspaper articles on the walls.

There was a nice mural that illustrated the highlights of Sauk City.

This was August Derleth's home "The Place of Hawks" as he named it.  And yes this is Wisconsin in the middle of December, because of the El Nino year it's been pretty warm and the snow we had in November melted off.

And here are some pictures of his grave marker with one of my favorite Thoreau quotes.  Over all it was a great trip, I plan to come back when they have the next Walden West Fest.
