Wargaming Conan's Hyboria: Royal Armies Of The Hyborean Age

I never, in my wildest dreams thought that I would get my hands on these rules! This is my personal Holy Grail of wargaming! Not only is it written by Lin Carter (don't throw rotten tomatoes at me, I like his writing), but as far as I know, it's the only Conan miniatures wargame to date (not including the FFG boardgame)

Thanks to Tim Young (RunicusFasticus) for doing the trade with me!

I haven't had the chance to read the rules yet, but will get to it soon, and post my thoughts on it!

  1. Just bagged a copy myself, mislisted as "Royal Armies of The Hyorian Age". They look really interesting, and suitably old school for my taste. Cheers.

    1. They're not bad rules, Springinsfeld. Check out Fantasy Games Unlimited website, they have a historical version of the rules as well called "Broadsword".

  2. 4 years late!
i had these rules as a kid, they were DENSE.. certainly they have the issue that a lot of older wargames from the 70s had and that they were a bit too complicated. These along with DOWN STYPHON! were rule sets that would have allowed me to play games in fantasy worlds i liked, but were out of my ability as a younger player. Now i feel i am spoiled by newer easier to play rules and find that i am not interested in giving either set a go.. but i love all the extra "fluff" that is in both books(down styphon lets you play games set in the Lord Kalvan timeline from the paratime books. Piper, the author, is no where as good a writer as howard was)
