Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, Will It Jump The Shark?!

First I had read that the Hobbit was going to be two movies, I was skeptical but thought it might work.  Then the news that it's going to be 3 movies long, that gave me pause.  Jackson is bringing back several actors as the characters they played in Lord Of the Rings, some of whom were not born until well after the events in the Hobbit.  Another pause.  Yes I know they will probably be doing flashbacks with Frodo, Legolas will make an appearance in Thranduil's court (which isn't in the book), Sauruman will make an appearance due to exerpts from the appendices in Lord of the rings.  But the one thing that really gets me is a pretty she elf warrior custom made to appeal to a broader audience.  Taurel is not a character mentioned in any of the books, I'm guessing Peter Jackson was thinking that there weren't enough "strong female role-models" in the book so why not add one in.

Evangiline Lilly from Lost fame, will be playing the character.  Yes, I'm still going to see it on opening day like the other three movies, but I'm not quite as excited about it. It's just got me doing the face palm.
